MAMAISON PARTICIPATES IN ‘GRAND’ INVITATION TO BUDAPEST
Budapest Winter Invitation; an initiative led by the Hungarian National Tourist Office

From 1st November 2008 until 31st March 2009, the Hungarian National Tourist Board is issuing an open invitation to celebrate a winter vacation in the glorious city of Budapest. A number of traveller-friendly programmes have been put into place in many of the city’s best restaurants, tourist attractions, as well as hotels. MaMaison’s two offerings in Budapest, the 5-star MaMaison Andrassy Hotel and 4-star MaMaison Residence Izabella, have both devised special seasonal offers aimed at making the cold winter in proud Budapest a hot holiday destination. So, what’s on in Budapest this winter?

Budapest Christmas Fair, 21st November to 29th December 2008

Budapest’s traditional Christmas Fair, held yearly on Vörösmarty Square, is widely considered one of the best throughout the whole of Europe. During the dates when the fair is on, the square is jam packed with sellers, hawkers and artists, all offering hand-made arts and crafts, as well as seasonal trinkets to the milling masses. Wooden cabins offering mulled wine and fresh-baked gingerbread fill the square with a heady scent of cinnamon, winter pine and spicy ginger. The square also has a live stage where puppet shows, folklore music and dance performances provide toe-tapping entertainment.

Budapest Spring Festival, 20th March – 5th April 2009

For 28 years now the Budapest Spring Festival has been Hungary's largest cultural festival, attracting musicians and fans from around the world. In the last two weeks of March, around 200 cultural events in more than 50 venues around the city are laid on for the enjoyment of both locals and international visitors. This year around, guests can be entertained by Orchestra Baobab – the sound of Afro-Cuban rhythms, the fantastic Max Raabe & Palast Orchester, as well as a musical tour in the world of klezmer courtesy of the Cantor Concert.

A land of thermal water – The Budapest Széchenyi Baths

No visit to Hősök tere (Heroes’ Square), just minutes from MaMaison Andrassy Hotel, is complete without a wind-down in the Széchenyi baths in the Városliget (City Park). The complex, one of the largest in Europe, boasts the usual network of hot tubs and steam rooms, but the outdoor pools in the enormous neo-Baroque courtyard are the main attraction, and are particularly atmospheric in the winter months. The warmer pool is better suited to a chat, a soak and a game of chess, while the second offers alternate bubble massage and a bizarre aquatic roundabout that brings a smile to faces of all ages. Only committed swimmers, equipped with the obligatory swimming caps, take to the colder water in the central pool.

JJ Doran, MaMaison Hotels & Apartments Director of Sales & Marketing states: “We have supported the Hungarian National Tourist Office with their Budapest Winter Invitation for two years. It is a great way to generate some very real buzz about this exciting and dynamic city destination. It is becoming increasingly important for both public and private sectors to work together on creating synergy that positively benefits travellers’ experiences in Hungary. I am delighted that MaMaison can take part in such an initiative and do not doubt that, thanks to the quality of our Andrassy and Izabella hotels, we will play an important role in making the programme yet another success.”
